Causes of dizziness after exercise and how to treat it

Feeling dizzy after exercise is not usually considered a serious health condition. It usually indicates fatigue during exercise or forgetting to eat food or water. In this article, we provide an explanation of the causes of this dizziness and how to manage it.

First: The causes of feeling dizzy when exercising
1- Excessive stress
Excessive stress occurs when some people exercise at high intensity for a long time, and this may lead to them suffering from extreme fatigue, which appears in many symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, shortness of breath, thirst, and vomiting. A scientific study indicates that injuries related to excessive stress constitute 36.2% of the total injuries related to With exercise.

2-Continuous use of movement machines
The type of exercise that a person practices may affect his feeling of dizziness. For example, using sports machines such as a treadmill, which requires making continuous movements, may lead to a feeling of dizziness, as some people feel after getting off the machine that they are still moving even though they are not moving, and this condition can be called motion sickness.

3-Dehydration
Dehydration occurs when the body loses an amount of water greater than the amount it takes in. Dehydration can occur at any age, especially when suffering from a disease or in hot weather. Dehydration appears with several symptoms such as feeling dizzy, dry mouth, weakness, fatigue, decreased urination, and extreme thirst. Therefore, It is always recommended to drink enough water or any other fluids before and after exercise.

4-Lack of oxygen
The occurrence of irregular breathing during exercise means that the person does not get a sufficient amount of oxygen to meet the needs of his muscles because the muscles use more oxygen during exercise than usual, and therefore the heart rate and breathing speed rise more, which facilitates the consumption of a larger amount of oxygen.

People who suffer from respiratory problems or insufficient breathing during exercise may feel dizzy, because dizziness indicates that the brain needs a greater amount of oxygen.

5- Low blood pressure
The normal blood pressure in humans is 120/80 mmHg, but the state of low blood pressure occurs when the blood pressure is less than 90/60 mmHg. In general, blood pressure can decrease within an hour of exercise in some people, causing dizziness, blurred vision, and decreased blood pressure. Concentration, nausea, and paleness, especially when exercising at high intensity.

6- Low blood sugar
Sugar is the primary source of energy when exercising. Low blood sugar may occur in some people, causing dizziness, anxiety, fatigue, feeling hungry, tremors, and profuse sweating. This condition may occur especially if you do not eat before exercising.

Second: Treating dizziness during exercise
Treatment for this condition may be simple, or in some cases it may require a visit to the doctor. Among the most important treatment methods are:

1- Rest during exercise
When dizziness occurs due to excessive stress or low blood pressure, it is recommended to sit and place the head between the knees, which increases blood flow to the brain, and try to take a deep breath during the break, and make sure to practice regular breathing during the exercise, and you should not return to the exercise until the dizziness disappears completely.

2-Moisturizing the body
You must be careful to drink enough water or energy drinks during the day, whether before, during or after exercise. The pale yellow color of urine indicates obtaining a sufficient amount of fluids.

3- Eat something before exercise
People who suffer from low blood sugar should eat something before exercise, especially foods rich in healthy carbohydrates such as bananas or dates. Drinking a cup of fruit juice can solve the problem of low blood sugar after exercise. It is recommended that an athlete’s meals include healthy carbohydrates such as Whole grains and fruits.

Finally, we note that if you continue to feel dizzy after exercise despite all the previous measures, it is necessary to call a doctor to treat the condition, which may be caused by diabetes, heart problems, severe dehydration, severe low blood sugar, or it may indicate pregnancy in women.
